about

I often laugh about this song when I'm introducing it at shows. But my introduction is true. The idea of this song really started in a hot tub in the mountains of North Carolina. It was New Years Ever and I was up seeing my brother's Tim and Danny of the Carter Brothers Band. They were playing at the foot of Beech Mountain at a place called Rascals. And as usual after one of their shows, the party continued on into the morning. When I realized my hair was freezing we moved the festivities inside and wound up dancing by the fire. I only had one dance that night. A dance that inspired the chorus of "Dance with Me".
This song is really the heart of "All Points". Everything was written after "Dance" and I knew I wanted to keep it's feel throughout the recording. I was headed to write with my good friend Ashe Underwood and really didn't have anything to take to the session but this chorus. So I sang it for him and he loved it. This is another tune that was finished in an afternoon. Ashe came up with the line about along the banks of the Pontchartrain. And at the time I thought he was talking about a train!! I had no idea there was a lake outside of New Orleans called the Pontchartrain. I wasn't as traveled as I am now and every time I go to Nola I make sure to give my thanks to the that great body of water.
"Dane With Me" started in the mountains of NC then flowed it's way down the Mississippi ending up in Louisiana. It's a perfect example of the magic of co-writing.
Thanks Ashe!!!

Dance With Me
(JB, Ashe Underwood)

Down in New Orleans
I met a Bayou queen
She was every dream I’d ever had
Tongue tied and mystified
By the fire in her eyes
Under her spell
She had me bad

All night long the fiddles played
All along the banks of the Pontchartrain

When she said
Dance with me
Let your heart sing to mine
Let the feeling carry us away
Dance with me
Hold on to me tight
Cause in your arms I want to stay

We went round and round
Barley touched the ground
Floating on the scent of her sweet perfume
The night wore on and on
We fell in love by dawn
Under a fading Cajun moon

All night long the fiddles played
All along the banks of the Pontchartrain

When she said
Dance with me
Let your heart sing to mine
Let the feeling carry us away
Dance with me
Hold on to me tight
In your arms I want to stay

There must have been some magic
In that Summer breeze
String enough to win her heart
And bring me to my knees
I can still he sayin’

Dance with me
Let your heart sing to mine
Let the feeling carry us away
Dance with me
Hold on to me tight
In your arms I want to stay

Dance with me
Hold on to me tight
Cause in your arms I’ll always stay

From the foothills of NC Jonathan has been entertaining and turning heads for 35 years. Think of Keith Richards and Merle Haggard jaming with Lynyrd Skynyrd. In an over saturated world of “bro-country”, country outlaw wannabes, JB has remained true to the roots of his musical past. JBs music has been described as an in your face, southern country, roots rock, from the southern heartland. ... more
