about

Fairs, Drive-ins, steamy nights, warm beers and two lane roads are a few of the things I love about the nostalgia of the South in the Summer. And "Drive-in" is a song that wraps all those great things and a blue dress into a funky little tune that gives a different groove to the record. This song took a little while longer to write. I had the blue dress and the one last kiss ideas, but didn't really know where they would take me.... Until the chorus. I can't really explain how the chorus happened. It was just one of those days when it all clicked. I like the imigry of a love so strong it'll run a train off it's tracks and a kiss that tasted like moonshine. Then the song really took flight in the seat of a Ferris wheel. I've never had my fortune told. But I'm glad that the crystal ball was broken and she chose the right one..

lyrics

Drive-in Nights
(J. Birchfield, K. Manna)

Put on that Cotton dress
You know the blue one that I like
We’re gonna do some things
We haven’t done in a long time

Down the road of one last kiss
We can two-lane reminisce
Try to get away
From the way it is

Baby all you gotta do is smile at me
Cause that’s what I miss

That always takes me back
To when the wheels were on the track
When love was simple and easy to find
And your kisses tasted like moonshine
Under Neon Lights
And Drive-in Nights

How bout that county fair
Ride that carnie Farris wheel
We got stuck on top
So we drank those two warm beers

The fortune lady read our palms
Said you’d marry a guy named Don
Then she called the cops
When you smashed her crystal ball

Baby you still got that fire in your eyes
Like I’m all you want

Chorus

Makin’ out at the Starlight Drive-in
Never knowin when to say no
Or when to say when
You were the one
Who made me feel like a star

Solo

Baby all you gotta do is smile at me
Cause that’s what I miss

Chorus

about

jonathan birchfield Charlotte, North Carolina

From the foothills of NC Jonathan has been entertaining and turning heads for 35 years. Think of Keith Richards and Merle Haggard jaming with Lynyrd Skynyrd. In an over saturated world of “bro-country”, country outlaw wannabes, JB has remained true to the roots of his musical past. JBs music has been described as an in your face, southern country, roots rock, from the southern heartland. ... more
