"Shootout" was another one of those songs that went down pretty quickly. Being from the area where NASCAR was born, I had quite the racing vocabulary and I felt it my southern duty to write a tribute to the drivers of a sport that we hold high in NC and the South.
A special thanks goes out to my friend, NASCAR hall of fame driver Dale Jarett and a few friends at ESPN for getting "Shootout" played on the 2013 and 2014 Saturday night ESPN racing telecasts.
This is also the only song that was recorded with a different group of players and not at the same time as the tunes from the album.
We needed to get this song finished quickly as ESPN was eager to get it for their telecasts. unfortunately I was on the road in PA. So the boys got together in Nashville and laid down the music and I pout the vocals down while I was in Pittsburgh. It was a stateside, whirlwind session that produced the most "famous" tune from Enjoy The Ride".
